Humans are not peaceful creatures.

Humans are not peaceful creatures.
The experience of a child or the most limited study of history will illustrate this.
Even the most gentle people can be roused to great courage or savagery in defense of those they love. If pacifists are pushed too far in defense of their principles they will rebel with the grim determination of a Viking. Intellectuals are, in their heart, Samson smiting the Philistines with the jawbone of an ass.
How can humans be peaceful creatures when we are all at war with ourselves in our own minds?
Intellect struggles with emotion. Anima with Animus.
Fragments and mirrors of ourselves in endless, sometimes bitter conflict.
‘As above, so below. ‘ That which occurs internally is projected externally and visa versa.
A battlefield in the mind creates a battlefield on Earth: A battlefield on Earth creates a battlefield in the mind.
There cannot be peace, not permanent peace. Not in the mind. Because that would require a victory and a dominance of one fragment over another.
We cannot be a hero shooting his Shadow like in Jung ‘s dream. Plato’s Republic quickly becomes tyranny. Neither Anima or Animus ought to be forever dominant over the other. Reason ought not to forever rule passion, nor lust forever rule logic.
There must be struggle.
There must always be conflict between the fragments of the mind, but there will also be times of mutual respect and cooperation. Reason may, for a while, guild lust. Anima and Animus may, at times, walk hand in hand.
Humans are not peaceful creatures.
But we experience moments of balance, of peace.
